About ACOLLECTIVE
What we offer
ACOLLECTIVE is a workspace for entrepreneurs, creatives, and small businesses, located in a charming historic building in the centre of York.
We provide serviced offices for teams of up to 8, on hassle-free terms.
Our friendly and relaxed working environment supports you to grow your business, without getting tied into a long-term commercial lease.
Our story
ACOLLECTIVE was founded in 2015 to provide flexible office space to York’s business community.
We’ve supported over 20 small businesses, helping them to establish a presence in York city centre at an affordable price.
We’re also a favourite spot for businesses that want a second office, with gigabit internet providing a seamless connection to head offices located elsewhere around the world.
Community
ACOLLECTIVE is part of the York Creatives, Tech York and Guild of Media Arts networks, as well as a member of several local business groups.
We also founded York’s Flexible Workspace Group - a working group for the owners and operators of co-working spaces and serviced offices in the city.
Through these networks and groups we:
• Connect our members to partners and prospects across the city.
• Secure speaking slots for our members to drive awareness of their business.
• Help members find new premises after they’ve outgrown their office here.
We also enjoy regular trips to York’s Red Goat Climbing Wall.
The history of 22 Pavement
Our beautiful workspace sits within York’s Central Historic Core Conservation Area.
Formerly known as “Marketshire”, our street was renamed “Pavement” in the early 1300s as it was one of the first streets in the city to be paved.
While today we use 22 Pavement as our address, the building is actually a conversion of three properties - 18 Pavement, 20 Pavement, and 22 Pavement. 18 Pavement contains the internal remains of a house from approximately 1700.
The three properties were converted into a Public House in 1893, when the timber frontage was added. This facade contains several notable features, including decorative plasterwork with foliage trails, cartouches, two painted representations of the York Coat of Arms, “winged devil” finials, and a “broken dragon” finial at the apex.
Next door to us is the Gold Fleece public house (16 Pavement), dating back to at least 1503. Next to the Golden Fleece is the Grade I listed Thomas Herbert House and Lady Peckett’s Yard at 12 - 14 Pavement, currently occupied by York Gin.
Getting here
By bike: There are multiple cycle racks within 1 minute of 22 Pavement. One opposite our front door next to Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate, one at Co-Op, one on Fossgate, and one behind our building in Lady Peckett’s Yard.
By bus: The nearest stop is Stonebow, 1 minute walk away. Piccadilly is 5 minutes walk. Check out the iTravelYork website for more information.

"I had an office at ACOLLECTIVE when I started my business. It was the ideal environment for us as we took on our first 4 employees. It was professional, private and straight forward. We are now a 25 person company, ACOLLECTIVE gave us that first platform to be exactly where we are today."
